At Fort Standish, Mayflower National Guardsmen are no strangers to criminality. They are constantly met with hostile force ranging from small intrusions all the way to terroristic assaults. But as it turns out, some guardsmen haven’t exactly “experienced it all” in their line of duty, especially considering a more recent intrusion across their post.

Recently, an armed assailant was found posing as a member of the Mayflower National Guard in an attempt to gain authorization into Fort Standish. The man was first seen at Wagner Logging Co. where he was spotted wearing attire in a similar fashion to National Guard personnel.

The impersonator, driving a yellow taxi, was tracked all the way to the entry gate of Fort Standish. There, things took a turn for the worst as the man’s poor attempt to bypass the checkpoint swiftly turned into a fatal shootout with the officials posted around the site. After crashing into the front gate, the man exited his car and began shooting at the national guardsmen, fatally wounding one and injuring another before they were neutralized.

Following the shooting, other guardsmen and nearby civilians gathered around the area to discuss the commotion and to sustain the checkpoint’s security. When asked about the incident, one guardsman stated that situations like this are unusual, and that National Guard impersonators are not a common occurrence. However, despite the extraordinary encounter, the guardsmen of Fort Standish expressed little concern over the incident as they stood ready to dispatch any threat to their post.

Further infiltration attempts on Fort Standish have yet to be seen or reported, but the Mayflower National Guard has made it clear that they are more than capable of handling such happenings.
