With the Mayflower National Guard opening applications permanently, and the new system in place, I figured I’d find out about something else new about the Mayflower Army National Guard. The Air Cavalry.
AIR CAVALRY. A new modern concept created in 1959 and spearheaded by the 101st Airmobile Division, UC Army.

The Mayflower National Guard currently garrisons a single Cavalry Squadron, known as TROOP A, 2ND CAVALRY SQUADRON. In the words of MAJ. chappie342 (in which I asked as a friend, interested in the Guard), “Cavalry is a cooler Recon, with elements of Infantry”; to clarify, he stated, “We scout ahead, harass, insert via helicopter, cover retreats, and other actions that may be allocated to us.” (the Cavalry Squadron).

Personally, I can testify of the awesomeness of helicopters, having been a door-gunner on some MNG operations. If it would interest you even half of how it interested me, you’ll want to be in the Guard today.

I asked Specialist coolg6ry for several photos showing the Dakota M1 helicopter, in which Cavalry may use, further, they also focus on fast insertion, calculated movements, and experienced soldiers. Currently, the Cavalry is lacking personnel, but if you ever find yourself interested in the Mayflower Army National Guard during BCT6, or onwards, then maybe you should find yourself a cavalry Stetson and your horse with rotors.

The National Guard has had various new units open up, such as the Honor Guard, in which I had the privilege of watching their demonstration on the 3rd of July 2025, following an inspection by Governor orangebear22 and a brief parade to the Supreme Court building, where the Governor briefly spoke. With the Guard’s restructuring, such as making Medical Auxiliary, and creating more opportunities within the Training Company, I believe the Guard may continue to have more opportunities and continue to instill pride in Mayflower, and in the Union of Columbia.
