A whistleblower from the Executive Office of the Governor says the Senate is preparing an impeachment inquiry against Justice Xiqaq of the Supreme Court. People are talking about it because, since August 2024, he hasn’t written a single opinion.

Justice Xiqaq appears at conferences, listens to arguments, and votes on cases. But he has never written a majority, dissenting, or concurring opinion to explain why he votes the way he does. “It’s the biggest judicial failure of our time,” says Saayan Absimil, a constitutional law scholar at Bloxvard University.

Even though he doesn’t put anything in writing, Justice Xiqaq is active in court, arguing with Attorney General Sadoimpacto and engaging in discussion with licensed attorneys. Still, many residents aren’t impressed. “We see him working, but we have no idea what he’s thinking,” said a Clark County resident. People have started calling him “the silent gavel,” and the nickname has caught on fast.

The Senate seems to think he’s intentionally avoiding his responsibilities. Writing opinions isn’t required by the Constitution, but it’s something people expect. Voters want to understand how justices think, especially since decisions are becoming more divisive.
